Theo is a part of Hobbes and Co., the four cats that we made friends with starting June-July 2019. He usually visits with Mingus, though they are not really close.
Theo was the youngest cat of the pack. He is the cat that took me the longest to court. He is flighty and anxious - I remember having to spend an hour or two of my evenings waiting for him and talking to him almost every night for more than a week. I would see him perched on our perimeter wall and slowly come close an inch more than the previous night. I give him food outside the gate, along with Mingus, because Hobbes and George were already being fed inside our gate (to lessen tension regarding food). After a week or two I let them in, feeding them all at the same time in one area.
Theo blossomed into a sweet little boy, an expert mouse-catcher (I saw him twice playing with a mouse at our backyard) and I was very fond of him because he has this full-of-light energy. George eventually became his bestfriend and playmate, and I would always see them wrestling with each other. Hobbes and Co. were still outdoor cats then (I was still getting ready to secure the apartment for me and the animals), and Theo, being the playful boy that he is, wanders during the day. After three days of not seeing him, our neighbor told me that they saw a dead cat under their car. I saw his lifeless body and figured he might have died from toxic substances or eating an infected rat. He was still wearing his collar. Theo was my first experience of a cat dying, and it was one of the most difficult experiences I had with losing a friend.
